EFFICACY OF DONEPEZIL IN SEVERE AD

editorial comment
A pivotal study led by Sandra Black has demonstrated the efficacy of donepezil in patients living in the community with severe AD, defined by MMSE scores of 1 to 12. This trial was key in the approval by Health Canada for the use of donepezil at this stage of the disease. The new data will have to be taken into account when studying the results of the Third Canadian Consensus Conference on Dementia (CCCD), to be released in the Canadian Medical Association Journal using case vignettes and Alzheimer’s and Dementia using review articles, such as the one by Herrmann, Gauthier and Lysy.
