NON-PHARMACOLOGICAL INTERVENTIONS IN NURSING HOMES

EDITORIAL COMMENT
Severe AD is most often managed in nursing home settings. The usefulness and safety of antipsychotic drugs have been increasingly questioned (see previous issues of International Abstracts in Alzheimer’s Disease & Other Dementias). A report from Fossey et al demonsrates that person-centred care reduces the need for psychotropic drugs. This is in line with findings by Landreville et al for reduction of aggressive behaviour using non-pharmacological interventions.
