More evidence is now available on controllable
vascular risk factors: cerebral emboli (Purandare et al
), hypercholesterolemia (Green et al ) and hypertension/obesity/diabetes
(Hayden et al ). These studies support currently available
strategies to prevent Alzheimers disease and vascular dementia
for all individuals. They require regular visits to a primary
care practitioner and compliance towards recommendations for changes
in lifestyle and, if necessary, medications.
